Our further adventures in Loveland

With the woman I love I never know which way the wind is going to blow.  It never blows well in the morning.  Sometimes I feel like we break up every morning.  But we've never broken up at night.

The other night we saw The Last Station together.  In some ways I was moved more than she, I think, as I saw how much Tolstoy loved his countess.  They were so different, yet completed each other.  You could understand why, despite the difficulties, those two were together.  Anybody who sees us knows why we are together.  We could not be apart once we met.  I mean, we could.  But for some reason we don't want to be.  I certainly don't.

Just as the rain began falling I drove down the 101 to pick her up.  We had egg white omelets at Mel's and talked about my kids.  Enough said.  You can imagine the rest.

Then we drove down Doheny to Beverly to Burton Way and arrived at City Hall.

It takes fifteen minutes to fill out a marriage license.  Nobody else was waiting in line.  I misspelled Ana's last name.  Oh God.  Can you believe it?  I would have caught it.  And the clerk misspelled her mother's name as Solly instead of Sally and then we caught that the first version had "Anna" instead of "Ana."  But once it was all corrected, we raised our right hands and swore to be tell the truth.  I looked over at Ana.  "It's so easy to know why I am in love.  It is way beyond what is skin deep."

"Me too, sweetheart," she said.

"I can't wait for our date."

"San Francisco?"

"WIth the kids?"

"I don't know if I am ready for that."

"I know."

"Maybe we should just come home and be married."

"Are you guys ready to hear what I have to say?" the clerk who misspelled the names said.

"Do you cater?" I said.

The clerk laughed.  I am not certain Ana did.  Maybe she thought I was a jerk!!!!

Just like Steve Martin.

"We're open every Thursday, but we're booked until the eleventh," she said.

"Can we marry anywhere?" Ana said.

"In the state of California," the clerk said.

"Have I forced you into any of this?"

"You are a force," I said.  "This is completely my own insanity."

"Mine too."

"I do love being in love with you.  I keep chasing you.  Maybe it isn't healthy?"

"To chase me?  I think chasing me is very healthy for you, darling."  Her red lips spread into self-satisfied smile.  I loved her in her red organic cotton workout blouse.  "Shall we go?"

"We better."

We took the elevator back down and got in our vehicle.  The rain was coming down hard.

"Let's not shop.  Just take me home.  You barely have enough time to pick up the kids.  I don't want yo to be late.  You should always be on time for your kids."

"I know.  I love you honey."

"I love you too.  But be sure you get get there, darling."

I let her out of the car.  The rain started suddenly pouring like mad, and I headed up West Knoll to Santa Monica Boulevard.

Ana says:

Oh, you're tripping! I didn't force you into ANYTHING, lemon pie! I had you begging . . . you were wrapped from the start. So was I! XO
