Mission Statement: “The Canary Project produces
visual media, events, and artwork that builds public
understanding of human-induced climate change and energizes
commitment to solutions.”
Founded in 2006 by husband and wife team Edward Morris and
Susannah Saylar,
The Canary Project
began as a project to photograph landscapes around
the world most acutely affected by global warming. Since
its founding, Canary has expanded its initial undertakings
to support a wide variety of other artists working at the
intersection of art and ecology. As they diversify their
programming to reach a broader audience, they remain
committed to expanding the outreach of their inaugural body
of work, Canary Project Photos: The Landscape of Climate
Change.
On July 4th, 2008, The Canary Project teamed up with Green
Patriot, Timberland and other partners for the launch of
the
Green Patriot Posters
Campaign. The launch premiered posters by acclaimed
designer Michael Bierut to mobilize Americans against global
climate change. The posters were featured on 80 bus
exteriors (and interiors) in Cleveland.
